Tuesday June 12th remembering
The journey begins.
Took off for Dallas.
Two stopovers, London and Chicago.
21 hours door to door, Zele (Belgium) to Dallas.
Chose 10:10 a.m. for the first flight, so that I could get a good night’s sleep, rise at a natural hour for me, with plenty of time to prepare and arrive at Brussels airport completely relaxed.
Queuing at baggage check-in, I noticed two people from companies that I train! We chatted for about 15 minutes. One of the guys told me that he liked my workshop a lot, because it’s given him a clearer perspective on what he wants out of life.
I thought to myself, what does it mean, to meet these two people here? Hmmm, answer, I’m not alone on this trip, familiar people accompany me.
Brussels to London Heathrow, 1 hour 10 minutes.
2 hours 30 minutes stopover.
Landing at Heathrow, I got acquainted with a mechanical R&D Manager from Johnson Controls. He’s Canadian. Flies around the world to discuss mechanical problems with the main car manufacturers, like Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz. He was in Belgium for about a week because part of his family still lives there. Next trip he’s going to bring along his Wife and kids to meet the family. He talked about how bad the American economy is becoming and how bad the car industry is becoming. He blamed workers for not giving it their all, for not being efficient, and being too demanding of companies, so that companies are not able to survive. He fears that a lot of the economy is shifting towards China. Living close to Detroit, this is a huge challenge from his point of view. We’re talking in the queue before Customs, when a security inspector shouts, “who does this luggage belong to?” A piece of luggage has been left alone. I see fear on people’s faces. To everyone’s relief, the owner of the luggage shows up and apologises.
My conversation companion leaves, as his flight is from a different terminal.
More than an hour to go before departure.
I read Dr Joe Dispenza’s book ‘Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind’ and observed people around me.
Time passed quickly.
Boarded the flight, having asked for an aisle seat, to give me more space to stretch my legs.
Two young men sat next to me and wore their headphones for the whole flight. Conversation options: zero!
I wish I was sitting on the row in front of me, where there is a nice couple, enjoying the trip and their flight neighbors.
I accept the situation and turn to appreciation of in-flight media entertainment. There are about 7 channels to choose from, all showng recent movie releases. I chose ‘Bridge to Terabithia’. It’s about a boy and a girl who create their own imaginary dream world in the forest they play in together. Very moving. The ending made me cry. The movie message that I felt, express love to those that are close, now, while you can.
Watching movies and sleeping a little, the time flew.
London to Chicago, 8 hours.
5:15 p.m. arrival.
2 hours 30 minutes stopover.
Felt like plenty of time.
However … baggage distribution didn’t work properly, so I had to wait more than an hour and a half to get my luggage.
I started to panic, not wanting to miss the flight, as I was already tired and didn’t fancy an overnight in the airport.
I still had to go through Customs and check in again.
When my luggage arrived, there was 45 minutes to departure of my flight.
I ran to check-in as fast as possible.
With half an hour of queuing to go through security, I felt, I won’t make it.
So I shouted to the queue, “I have a flight in half hour, could I please get to the front?”
A gentle American man let me through and lent me a hand.
I made it just in time!
Chicago to Dallas, 3 hours.
Due to arrive 7:45 p.m.
I wonder if my luggage made it in time to this connecting flight.
In the plane, I noticed new technology that could be used in Cyres Café. A pair of glasses that has a huge virtual screen projected into it. Could be interesting for The Dream Room. I wrote it in my notebook, noticing that I felt very calm inside, a good sign for me.
